Video blogging or vlogging has been a real adventure for me. I embarked on this adventure just a short time ago to work on my public speaking skills, and I will tell you, it has opened my eyes about a few things.
One, I say “Um” A LOT… and I mean a lot. My husband has been watching my vlogs and providing feedback, as only a husband can. The last one we watched together literally had me in tears because he had me laughing so hard at myself. I will tell you, it’s really healthy to laugh at yourself once in a while. This very short (36 seconds I believe) video blog demonstrates just that.
The other notable take away is that while I am a really joyful person, I am not smiling enough – so I’m working on that one.
As I’m watching commentators, and folks giving interviews on TV, I find myself listening for their “um” or “and” and begin counting. I am committed to reducing the “um-factor” in my presentation skills one way or another, so stay tuned as I work to overcome that one!
This is turning into a fun journey, and more people are watching these than I realize – so I guess it’s time to turn on the charm!

The “um factor” vlog is my favorite because I love seeing people laugh. Greg’s laugh in the background is awesome.
Couldn’t help but laugh! I KNOW it is sooo hard not to do that! First thing we learned in speech class in college! Thanks for the refresher! Look forward to checking out your other posts. I am going to be starting a blog/vlog soon.
